Definition of Done and Definition of Ready Builder
Pick a starting template per story type, edit items, mark each Must or Should. Output is markdown ready to paste into Confluence, Jira issue templates, or a team handbook.
Start from a template, then tweak. The team owns these — copy what fits and delete what doesn't.
A story should not enter sprint planning without these. Pick a template that matches your team's discipline.
How to tell a useful DoD/DoR from a wish list
Useful Definition of Done items are checkable in 30 seconds. "Code merged to main" is checkable. "Code is high quality" is not.
Useful Definition of Ready items are refusable. If your team is too polite to say "this is not Ready", the DoR isn't doing anything. Keep DoR short — 6 to 10 items max.
Mark items Must only if a release would fail without them. Everything else is Should. If everything is Must, you don't have a checklist, you have a manifesto.
